Getting ready

So I have one week left on my job, which is nice. They've hired my replacement already, so this week I'm basically just hanging out. It's like those days in school where you're done with finals, but summer vacation hasn't officially started yet, so you spend your days walking from class to class visiting with friends and setting off stink bombs in the rooms of teachers you don't like. Only this time I'm walking from cubicle to cubicle and I've replaced stink bombs with stealing as many office supplies as I can get away with. I wonder if anyone would notice if I took the huge plasma TV in the main studio? (I'm just kidding, Clear Channel lawyers. Please don't sue or arrest me.)

Last week I made my first major purchase for the trip - it's the thing I'm typing on. A brand spanking new HP dv8130us laptop. For the geeks out there, it's 17inches (almost as many inches as it's owner - almost), 2.2ghz AMD, 1gig of RAM, dual 100 gig hard drives blah blah blah. I've wanted to buy a laptop since junior year college, so finally being able to do so is somewhat of a milestone for me. And yes, I bought it at Fry's, a place I swore years ago never to shop at again because of the rude, unknowledgeable salespeople and creepy store themes (the one in Woodland Hills is "Alice in Wonderland" and the one in Burbank is "Aliens Attack," and they are both filled with oversized statues depicting various characters. It's weird, bizarre, and unnecessary, and if they took half the money they spent to create these odd tech-store comic books and used it to properly train their staff, they'd be ahead of the game). However they had an unbelievable price, and since I'm a jew and I'll gladly compromise my morals for a bargain, I caved.

In the meantime, if you're in the LA area on Wednesday and want to see a kickass band, "Captured By Robots" is playing at The Lounge in Silverlake at 11pm. You have to see it to believe it, but basically this guy built a whole band out of robots, and he plays the guitar while they play everything else. It's half performance art, half music, and his story is that the robots have captured him and forced him to play in the band as their slave. It's worth seeing once, and if you're not in LA, they may be coming to a city near you. Check it out: http://www.capturedbyrobots.com/

Keep watching this space, pass it along to your friends...I think the blog will officially open for business this coming Friday. The day it does, I'll post the whole story on who I am, what I'm doing, and why. Which should be fun, because on none of those three things do I have a clear idea.
