the life and times of a wandering jew

Big Sur, California - I was just in the middle of writing a brilliant, insightful, witty post about my maiden voyage up here to Big Sur, and I accidentally erased it. And if there's one thing in my life I refuse to do, it is reproduce something I've already created. In college once, I was 7 pages into a 10 page paper, and something happened that cause me to lose it. Hours of work, and the whole thing was gone. In that situation, most people would accept the fact that sometimes life sucks and grudgingly start over. Not me. Paper never got done. Maybe that's why I failed out of college. Twice.

So instead of great insight, I'll post the Clift Notes. I'm sitting in the River Inn Bar in Big Sur, along the beautiful central coast of Northern California. I was excited when I noticed that the campground in which I was staying, Pfeifer State Park, had wireless access. I was less excited when I learned it was $8 a day to connect. Luckily for me, when I was talking to the very nice chick who worked the desk at the Big Sur Lodge (located inside the campground), she informed me that just two miles up the road the River Inn had free wireless at the bar, just sit down and buy drink. Well, one $7 Grey Goose and tonic later I have alcohol AND free wireless. Take that Big Sur Campground! However, I've been sitting here on their internet for almost an hour, and I felt a little guilty, so I ordered an artichoke heart appetizer. So my free wireless is up to $15. Damn good artichokes, though.

My campground is on the river, and it's muddy but not currently raining. The sun is playing peek-a-boo, and the temperature is not that cold. Which is good, because out of everything I remembered to pack, blankets or a sleeping bag was not on the list. I noticed my dad keeps a blanket in the back, so hopefully that will do. A seasoned camper I am not.

Time for pictures!

I'm off to Santa Cruz in the morning, and then to San Francisco. My brand new portable TV isn't getting any reception at the campsite, so I guess I'll have to do without the musings of Andy Rooney tonight. I think I'll live.
